Super Bowl Beers

What’s the best beer to have on hand at your Super Bowl party this year? Well, we’re glad you asked.

Hosting a Super Bowl party (or bringing some beer to the party you’re attending) can be taxing on the beer guy’s mind. What should you have on hand (or bring)? How many beers should you have in your fridge (see also: do you have off on Monday)?

Now, as much as we promote the idea of expanding one’s palette and sampling various craft beers, grabbing a 30 rack of one of the tried and true American light beers is a staple. You just have to do it. Whether it’s Bud Light, Miller Lite or Coors Light (or Natural Light, Keystone Light etc. etc.) having one of these on hand will ensure that everyone has at least some beer they can consume.

Leave that special limited batch craft six-pack in your cellar for a nice meal later in the week. It probably cost as much if not more than a case of this other stuff – don’t waste it on your party.

A host can supplement this fridge filler with a 12er of a nicer craft beer. Segue beers are a good buy for this as most attendees will probably be able to enjoy and appreciate them as well. Sam Adams Boston Lager, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Blue Moon are just a few options for this. If you’re headed to a party consider picking up a 12-pack that more than just a few niche beer snobs will enjoy. Remember, you’re buying for everyone not just yourself.

If you want to be not only a good host but a clever one, why not buy some beer from either Seattle or Denver? Coors Light and/or a Breckenridge sampler pack will cover you for the latter. For Seattle try either Redhook or Elysian.

I fully support making the Monday after the Super Bowl a national day off!
